A year ago on this day, we were spending our last days in Tokyo, Japan getting ready to count down to the new year. Little did we know, the world would become a different place in a mere 3 months after we’d come back. Sitting down and writing this blog post every year gives me a chance to reflect and go through my photos to see all the wonderful moments captured. 2020 has been a difficult year for a lot of people for a variety of reasons. For us, besides a few cancelled travel plans, we have nothing to complain about and a lot to be thankful for.
I don’t have many pictures to share of 2020 but I have some thoughts I wanted to put down.
In early 2020 I sat down and made a general list of goals I wanted to accomplish year-by-year up to 35. While the list consisted of some typical things (i.e. work and family related), there was a particular dream/goal I wrote down that I’ve always wanted. I spent most of 2020 noodling and working on it to make it into a reality (it’s a surprise but I really can’t wait to share).
I’ve found that for years I’ve been chasing the future. But at the end of each year, I always wonder where time has gone. What is this life if we keep chasing the future? Why is it so hard to appreciate the moment and your life as it is? How do I make it better, more fulfilling? 5 days a week, we work 8-10 hour days and we wait for the weekend. And when the weekend finally comes, we essentially sit around on our phones all day.
I promised myself that 2021 will be different.
In 2020 I thought I’d find fulfillment by traveling more but it’s such a short term reality – something I can only enjoy 4 weeks of the 52 weeks in the year. In 2021, I will continue to work my 9-5 but also dedicate time and effort into my new project – and I will enjoy the process and the time spent along the way. So while I didn’t get a chance to travel much in 2020, I spent this time actualizing my dream. 2020 was nothing like what I thought it’d be but here I am, typing this post, sipping on my coffee and as happy and content as ever. I honestly can’t wait to share this project here.
Thank you to my wonderful husband for sharing my vision. Your love has been unconditional and I’ll never take that for granted. Thank you for chasing my dream with me and helping me make it come true. Honestly cannot wait for what the future holds for us. Love you, unconditionally.
Truly, this next part is really for me to read back on at the end of 2021 just to reflect on what 2020 was like:
January – February
This year started out like the past 3 years with a quick visit to Montreal for work. And like every other year, there was a snow storm and it was freezing cold. We decided to stay in and ordered a sushi tray to enjoy while watching a movie. No matter where you are, those are the best nights. Before March, we spent a lot of time with friends, made a shopping trip to Michigan and I went to Niagara Falls in hopes of launching a big project for work (which was then delayed) but I got a chance to meet Molly Bloom!
March – November
During March we were both super healthy and maintained a good workout for a while lol. During our first lockdown, we got into everything that everyone else was doing. Gardening, working out, baking, dalgona coffee, kitchen renovations, etc., etc.
November – December
The past 2 months has been a bit of a blur. Between transitioning to a new role at work and working on our secret project lol, there really was no wind down time in December.
