2021: A Year in Review

For a split second I considered not doing A Year in Review post for 2021 but I’ve done this since 2016! And I do enjoy reading through them to remind myself of the great things that happened each year.

2021 started off as an exciting year with a lot of positive changes. New role at work, big program executions and new projects outside of work. The new project really consumed all of our spare time which has felt so fulfilling, especially during lockdowns.

We spent 2021 eating our way through Bancroft/Barry’s Bay, Toronto and the GTA. 2021 was the year of the poutine, we tried at least 6 different places and found our favourite along Combermere Road towards Barry’s Bay. Who can say no to a poutine with popcorn chicken?! Also, the farmer’s market in Combermere offers the best fresh baked breads, donuts and butter tarts!

We also had a few staycations for our 4th year wedding anniversary and our birthdays. This year’s anniversary was *chef’s kiss*. We had such an amazing time – it’s always nice to take a break and have a change of scenery. I look forward to our food crawls every year.

We planned a trip to Banff in September but we decided to cancel with increasing covid cases but I also had another major program to launch at work. Hopefully 2022 will be our year back on the road.

Right before Christmas, Carl played volleyball and tore his ACL…that’s another story to tell. He’s recovering though and will have surgery in April where I’ll once again have to cave in to his demands. So I mean…we’re both suffering lol. Speaking of health…our old pups have seen better days. As they age, more health concerns arise and it makes me so sad to think about. Scruffy turned 15 years old this year and Sassy is very close behind. We had to drive all the way to Ottawa to see an ophthalmologist for my poor girl. I hope we have a few more good years with them and I hope they feel they lived a good life with us…

All in all, 2021 was a great year (but could’ve been better for my pups). We got to see all our friends again before the lockdown which was nice. Every human has stayed safe and healthy and I really can’t ask for more than that.
