Part 2: The Roadtrip Girl Quarantine Diaries

We’re now on week 12(??) of the quarantine and things are pretty much the same as before. Like everyone else I’ve picked up the same hobbies, contributing to the shortage of vegetable seeds on gardening websites and flour in the grocery stores.

Gardening

I started my microgreens before the quarantine so I had quite a few seed varieties on hand. Instead of planting the seeds I had as microgreens, I started sprouting them for my square foot garden my husband built for me (building stuff is his new hobby lol). Square foot gardening is known to be one of the most efficient and productive way of vegetable gardening in a small space. Things are coming together pretty well and there’s so much to learn! I’ve already been able to harvest enough lettuce for a few salads. I also have a blackberry and raspberry bush, strawberries, pole beans, cauliflower, broccoli, basil, dill, sunflowers, daikon, carrots and arugula thriving despite the heat wave in May (wasn’t there a polar vortex 2 weeks ago??).

Baking/Cooking

I’ve never been much of a baker, baking is like a science and I don’t like following instructions. But lately I’ve been watching a lot of foolproof Chef John baking videos. I’ve also gotten adventurous and came up with my own Earl Grey Cupcake recipe. I’ve also tried different recipes for dinner, although lately I’ve been getting tired of my own cooking.

Anyway, we’re having a pretty good time staying home, although today would’ve been our 3rd day into our 2 week trip to Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg and Prague.

Have you picked up any new hobbies during this quarantine?
