In the month of August, we didn’t do a lot of road trips but we did a lot of date nights that I really enjoyed. The last time I did a date night in Toronto post was back in 2015 at the Ripley’s Aquarium so here’s another date night idea in Toronto.
Similar to 2015, we’ve been so busy with the new house that we haven’t spent a lot of time together so we decided to spend a night in the city.
H2O Float & Danforth
We started the day around late afternoon with an appointment at H2O Float. The concept of the experience was interesting. You float in a huge tub (similar to a hot tub) of water that’s highly concentrated with Epsom salt allowing you to, float. It was an hour long session and 30 minutes into floating I actually started to feel a bit seasick (lol). And there’s something else that people fail to tell you, if you even have a little paper cut, the 1000 lbs of Epson salt in the water will sting any wound. Be mindful of that. After the floating experience, there’s a private shower in the same room for you to rinse off all the salt. It was an interesting experience nonetheless and I did like the way my skin felt after the soak.
We got hungry after floating so we spent some time walking along the Danforth and found The Meat Department. The Meat Department is primarily a local butcher but they also serve sandwiches. We walked in and shared a strip loin and arugula sandwich as a ‘snack’ and it was delicious! The meat was juicy and the sauce was the perfect compliment. We also stopped by a local market to pick up some fresh berries and watermelon for the night.
Eating around Bloor
After walking along Danforth, we worked up an appetite for our next stop, Yasu. Yasu is an Omakase style (chef’s choice) restaurant with only 1 menu. There’s a new menu daily based on the freshest and seasonal seafood available. Yasu did not disappoint, but it was not enough food for the food monsters. We then made our way to Fuwa Fuwa Japanese Pancakes.
Fuwa Fuwa serves Japanese Soufflé Pancakes that I’ve seen all over Instagram and I’ve always wondered if they were worth the hype. It was! We got the crème brûlée pancakes with a caramelized glaze on top of the banana and a sesame latte. The pancakes were the right amount of sweetness and fluffiness from the egg whites. However, the sesame latte lacked a bit of flavour.
Ending the Night
After devouring all the food, we walked around a bit more and then called it a night and headed back to the hotel. We stayed at The Westin Harbour Castle for it’s lake view – it’s always my favourite. The next morning we had breakfast in bed (where I accidentally spilled a lot of coffee) and headed home. And with that, it ended one of my favourite date nights, ever 🙂
