10 Travel Hacks that are Actually Useful

There’s thousands of travel hack lists out there but are they actually practical? Here’s my list of 10 travel hacks that are actually useful:

  1. Ok, so this one isn’t much of a hack but a tip. The first washroom in the terminal always has the longest line. Though I thought it’d be obvious, I still see you lining up!
  2. Clearing browser cookies to help get you better online booking prices – cookies track your search activities and raise prices if they see increased activity.
  3. Searching for airfare Tuesday after 3pm to Wednesday. This is the time when airlines begin to reduce fares.
  4. Depart and arrive on a Monday instead of Friday – Sunday if your schedule is flexible. Ticket prices can differ by hundreds of dollars.
  5. Forgot your charger? Ask your hotel help desk for the ones left behind or if you have the cord, plug it in to the back of the TV.
  6. Put your phone on airplane mode if you need a quicker charge.
  7. Rolling up your clothes is like magic – where did all this space come from??
  8. Wear your heaviest clothes and shoes to save room in your luggage.
  9. Please stop removing your wallet, change, belt, watch and rings when you’re right in front of the security check point. Tuck it all in your bag until you pass. We’ll all save some time!
  10. I’m iffy on this one but I’ve tried it. Do your currency exchange once you get to your destination at the ATM. You apparently get charged a better exchange rate and forego the fee (in Italy, I still got charged the $3 admin fee and didn’t check the exchange rate).
