I don’t normally do individual reviews but I always enjoy reading other fellow Toronto blogger’s food recommendations so I thought I could start with l’Arte del caffè.
I’m sure most of you know, I love, love, love lattes. Wherever I go, I go with a latte in hand and if you know your coffee, Starbucks just doesn’t cut it (you know they purposely burn their beans?).
So this lazy Saturday afternoon, feeling a little under the weather, I went on Yelp (I find Yelp has the most accurate reviews! Yelp > Urban Spoon > TripAdvisor) to find somewhere with food and lattes. I stumbled upon l’Arte del caffè and went on our way. l’Arte del caffè is located in a new medical building. If you’re coming from the North, it’s right before the bridge towards Shops at Don Mills and a little hard to spot if the electronic sign didn’t have their ad on.
We went in and found a modern and bright little cafe with all glass walls. You would never image them to have a pizza oven, but they did. Feeling a little groggy, Carl did most of the chatting while I zoned out. I knew I really wanted a latte and Carl decided on the food. The owner was there along with a sweet barista, they had a lot to recommend and we decided on a pizza and Carl went for a melted hot chocolate they highly praised.
First came the latte, I could smell the aroma once they grinded the Italian imported beans. They poured a perfect rosettes design which I felt was thoughtful. You know the milk is frothed perfectly when the design stays even as you sip the coffee. And it tasted as good as it looked. Next came the pizza which I didn’t have a high expectations for since they didn’t really have a kitchen but it was great too. For $10, we got as many toppings as we wanted, our pizza had prosciutto, chicken, mushroom and topped with arugala. The crust was baked to a perfect crisp and the amount of sauce and toppings was just right.
Of course, the service was great too. The barista and owner checked up on us to make sure everything was good, the barista is exceptionally kind. When we paid the bill, the owner told us that almost everything they serve comes from Italy and that his family owns l’Arte del caffè in Italy. They truly have a knack for the Art of Coffee.
Located at 1262 Don Mills Road, it’s nice to have a good latte place without having to go all the way downtown and you don’t have to break the bank for an excellent cup of coffee.
